What Is It?: Stanley
Kubrick’s epic of unrequited infidelity in an imaginary NYC and orgies on a
Long Island much more interesting than it actually is (trust me; I grew up
there) is the master’s final film and a lot funnier than you remember.
Why Today?: On
this day in 1955, the Vienna State Opera reopened after
being bombed in WWII with a performance of Beethoven’s Fidelio… the title of which is the password to get into a certain
orgy in a certain film.
